SAN ANTONIO, Mar. 31, 2023 /San Antonio Business Journal/ — Healing from trauma can happen in the smallest of spaces. Just ask Susie Vybiral. She’s created a nonprofit that helps children heal by renovating their bedrooms.

The New Braunfels native founded Room Redux to anonymously help children who have faced physical and/or sexual abuse by giving their rooms a makeover. Vybiral, who is in the research phase of her doctoral candidacy in psychology at California Southern University, said she got the idea while working as a family advocate in Comal County.

“I would hear the horrific stories about what was happening to the children,” Vybiral said. “Yes, they’re getting counseling, but they’re still not sleeping in their rooms, or they’re afraid to be in their rooms, or their grades are bad, or they’re still cutting. It makes sense to me to change their environment. That seemed like a no-brainer.”
