Meet our Mid-Valley: Deb Wetherbee transform rooms of child abuse survivors

This is part of a weekly series introducing readers to individuals who are passionate about our Mid-Valley community.

Deb Wetherbee pictured retirement to be leisurely, maybe even boring.

But a few weeks after departing from her 27-year career at Portland General Electric, Wetherbee, of Woodburn, said she can’t imagine slowing down.

She and her daughter, Andrea Swingle, recently started the Willamette Valley chapter of the nonprofit Room Redux, an organization dedicated to transforming the bedrooms of children who have experienced trauma, including sexual and physical abuse.

Over the past several months, Wetherbee has devoted her time to getting the organization off the ground — roping in volunteers and donations and spreading the word about their work. She, her daughter and a handful of volunteers have completed three rooms since August and now have referrals to do three more.
